2 Years of Painting

Two years ago, I walked into an art shop and bought some brushes, paper and acrylic paints. At the time, I was searching for a creative outlet — an escape from technology.

I didn’t realise that painting would become a lifeline.

Five months after I started painting, seven of my pieces were selected for a local gallery’s winter exhibition. Seeing my work exhibited alongside other artists marked a turning point — I slowly began to embrace the title of “artist.”

As my epilepsy began to have a greater impact on my life, art became more than just a hobby. I fell in love with the process. Painting gave me a way to express struggles, process emotions and find moments of calm. What started as curiosity became something deeply therapeutic, unlocking a creative side I never knew I had.

What began as a hobby and form of escapism has grown into my full-time job - one I hope will grow into a sustainable career. Although this change from the corporate world was a slight push due to the way my health impacted my job, I jumped on the opportunity to give a go at being a full-time artist. It's been quite the change!

Eleven events later, I genuinely love every part of this journey: the therapy of creating, the constant learning, connecting with other artists, and even the admin! Most importantly, I have discovered something that works with my brain, not against it — something that fits around my epilepsy and allows me to manage it better.

Here’s to more events and building a lasting art career 🤞🎉👩‍🎨
